I've got my hands on some fresh turmeric. What to do now?

I'd like to try making that turmeric drink now at supermarkets. Does anyone know how? Would fresh turmeric be better for it than the powdered kind?

Caramelize some onions, add some chopped garlic, toasted mustard seeds, red pepper flakes, and some green beans (fresh are better but frozen will work, too) and grate the turmeric over the top. Cook until beads are tender. Salt and pepper to taste. Delicious and happy eats!

Fresh turmeric has a very mild ginger taste, but adds a rich beautiful yellow color to your dishes. Grate it fine and use it in stirfry, soups, with fish or my favorite...to perfume rice. Fresh turmeric also keeps very well. You can wrap them in paper towel then in a sealable plastic bag and store in the fridge for a couple months and even longer in the freezer.
